NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION WEEK | CARS | VISIT DETROIT
 |
2010 marked the fourth year that National Transportation Week called Detroit its home. The city that put the world on wheels was once again the hub of numerous fun, interesting and informative NTW events that took place the week of May 16-22, 2010.
By hosting National Transportation Week, Detroit continues a tradition that began in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy signed legislation creating the week as a national celebration of the important role that transportation plays in keeping America safe and on the move. NTW was also intended to make young people more aware of the transportation industry, in the hopes that they will eventually consider an automotive, highway, rail, shipping, trucking or air transport career.
For 2010, the military and defense industry will be spotlighted during National Transportation Week as a critically important industry that’s a major source of pride to the U.S. and a growing business sector in southeast Michigan. Events like National Defense Transportation Day and an NTW Arsenal of Democracy Convoy celebrated our military industry.
