VOLUNTEERS

YOU KNOW THE D. YOU LOVE THE D.
Now's the time to tell everyone all about it.

When you become a volunteer with the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, you in fact become an ambassador for metro Detroit, helping spread the word about the city and its suburbs.

Not only that, but you have the opportunity to make sure visitors have a great time during their stay, whether they're here for the always-bustling summer season, including the event-packed Labor Day weekend, or for special events, such as the upcoming Men's Final Four games in 2009.

Already, many people — some 2,700 last summer alone — use their talents to help the DMCVB organize and staff local events. Joi Bell and Fred Peoples, for example, shared their appreciation for The D by assisting with the NAACP National Convention in 2007 and 3 Days in The D last Labor Day weekend. Among their duties were managing the welcome booths at Detroit Metro Airport.

Others work as greeters at local hotels, the Cobo Convention & Exhibition Center and other attractions. They have also provided onsite assistance for such events as the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, the Detroit International Jazz Festival in downtown Detroit and the Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats festival in Pontiac.

Our volunteers are a lively, knowledgeable bunch who aren't afraid of using exclamation points when they talk about their experiences, as Matt Matteson of Novi recently did after working as the Snow Slide Ambassador for the 2008 Winter Blast. As he put it, "All of the volunteers that I worked with on the snow slide were just great and we all pulled together to make this a fun, safe event for everyone who braved the weather and really had a winter blast!"

If you'd like to become a part of this exciting opportunity — your chance to share your love of The D with our visitors — contact Yolanda Michaux, the DMCVB's Manager, Volunteer & Registration Services at (313) 202-1852 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you love The D as much as we do, you’ll want to make sure our visitors have the best experience possible. To make that happen, sign up now to become a metro Detroit ambassador. You won’t regret it — and you’ll remember it forever.
