Rachelle Ferrell is a jazz, pop, R&B, and gospel singer and musician. Renowned for her talents as a contemporary jazz singer, Ferrell began performing professionally as a teenager, writing much of her own material and performing both popular and jazz styles with equal ease. From 1975 through 1990 Ferrell sang backup for Phyllis Hyman, Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle, Vanessa Williams, and George Duke. She released her debut album, Somethin' Else in 1990 in Japan, five years before it was released in the U.S.
